Zeolite can be used to help purify municipal water supplies and waste water. In many countries, water companies use Zeolites to filter industrial and drinking water. It also acts as a filter medium to remove dirt from swimming pool water. Therefore it reduces the usage of chlorine. Chlorine is used to neutralize ammonia cal by products of pollution. Since Zeolite (Clinoptilolite) removes ammonia products, some pools have found chlorine being reduced by as much as 50%. Zeolite is becoming an excellent replacement for sand filters because it has a working life longer than traditional sand; also it weighs less e.g. one cubic foot of Zeolite weighs about 50 lbs whereas one cubic
foot of sand weighs about 100 lbs.
 
The method of application is to replace sand with Zeolite and backwash normally. Depending on ammonia and other captions, we can determine when replacement is needed
