Natural Zeolite is an inorganic porous mineral having a highly ordered structure. Zeolite means “Boiling stone in Greek. Zeolite has a natural Porosity because it has a crystal structure with Windows, cages and super Cages. Zeolites are Hydrated alumino –silicate of the alkaline and Alkaline earth cations, principally sodium, Potassium, calcium, and magnesium. So far more Than 45 natural Zeolite have been identified. The most common are clinoptilolite analcium , chabazite , erionite, and phillipsite, Commercially, clinoptilolite is the major Zeolite Used for various applications. Its chemical Composition can be given as an oxide formula: M2/n O.AI2O3.YSiO2.ZH2O Or as a structural formula: Mx/n[AIO 2 )×(SiO2)y].ZH2O Where M is a cation with charge of n ; the atoms in The square bracket represents the framework, X+Y Is the sum of the tetrahedral in the unit cell, the Cations ; M: whit the valance ; n , and the water Molecules fill the channels

What are the important properties of zeolites ?
Natural zeolite ‘ unique properties and
Characteristics can be categorized as : (i) cation exchange ,(ii)adsorption ,(iii)molecular sieving , (iv ) catalytic , (v) dehydration and hydration , and
(vi)biological reactivity ,and (vii) stability.
1. CATION EXCHENGE ; Zeolite are capable of Selective sorption of ion exchange .
2. ADSORPTION ; Zeolite can adsorb molecules On its large internal area , provided they can pass Through the in windows .
3. CATALYTIC PROPERTIES ; Zeolite can act as Solid acid catalyst . It can function as a strong acid (though it remains solid )
hen the hydration has Substituted a hydrogen for the additional valence Electron , or isoelectronic exchange with the Aluminum occurs.
4.MOLECUALR SIEVE ; Zeolite can e used as a Molecular sieve because it has a uniform window (or pore ) size .
5.HYDRATION AND DEHYDRATION ; Water Molecules can adsorb and release isothermally , Without any structural !
6.BIOLOGICAL ;Recently several biological Reactivity of natural zeolite has been developed Based on their basic properties .
7.THERMAL , MECHANICAL , CHEMICAL AND REDIATION STABILITY ; Natural zeolite are stable as Long as they are they a a suitable temperature and pH.
Within this range , it is unaffected by wide swings In temperature , pressure , and ionizing radiation .
